8A was built through climbing.

Based in Jasper, Alberta, the brand grew from years spent between the gym and the crag—paying attention to what feels right while climbing, what holds up through repeated sessions, and what you keep reaching for long after the session is over.

Why I Started 8A

I started 8A because I struggled to find climbing apparel that matched what I wanted: premium materials, understated design, lasting comfort, and clothing I would genuinely wear every day.

I wasn’t interested in putting another logo on an ordinary blank or creating products simply to fill a catalogue. I wanted to build the pieces I had been looking for—clothing designed around climbing, but never limited to the wall.

The name comes from a personal goal: climbing 8A. It represents something difficult enough to require years of effort, failure, repetition, and gradual progression. The company is being built through that same process—one product, one session, and one improvement at a time.

More personally, I wanted to create something rooted in the life I was already living and meaningful enough to grow alongside my family. 8A is not separate from my climbing or my life in Jasper. It is being shaped by both.

Our Philosophy

We build premium climbing products for climbers. We price them fairly because that’s how we believe a climbing brand should operate.

Premium should describe the material, construction, fit, and experience of wearing something—not an inflated price or unnecessary status.

That belief is why the collection remains intentionally small. Fewer products allow us to give more attention to every fabric, fit, and detail. Every piece must serve a purpose and earn its place through repeated use.

We are not interested in chasing constant trends, releasing products simply to create noise, or producing more than we need. We would rather make a few exceptional pieces that become part of how people climb, train, travel, and live.

The Pursuit

8A is both a climbing grade and a long-term commitment.

It represents progression through repetition—the belief that difficult things are built through consistent effort, failed attempts, and the decision to keep returning.

That is how I approach climbing. It is also how we are building this company.
